Vibration Damping Overview

Damping materials are an efficient and effective means to control vibration and structure borne radiated noise. Damping vibration can significantly reduce the creation of secondary noise problems throughout your application. Most rigid materials will be sympathetic to vibration at one or more frequencies. If you have motors or other vibration sources operating at these frequencies you can induce resonant vibrations in these components which can generate secondary noise or induce other structural problems.

Vibration Isolation materials help to reduce the amount of vibration energy transmitted from one surface to another. These materials are typically designed to be installed under some defined load factor between two surfaces that may transmit vibration. The overall mechanical systems natural frequency is reduced into a region that will eliminate most transmitted vibration. .

Typical vibration damping applications include sheet metal panels, cab enclosure panels, boat hulls and deck plates and HVAC ductwork. Typical vibration isolation applications include generator pads cab enclosure mountings structural frames, and engine mountings.

Standard Damping Materials:

DP-100: 0.5 #/ft² Asphaltic Based Damping Material 54" x 33"
DP-200: 0.75 #/ft² Asphaltic Based Damping Material 54" x 33"
DP-300: .05" Viscoelastic Damping Material 54" x 40"
DP-400: .125" Viscoelastic Damping Material 54" x 40"
DP-800: .25" Viscoelastic Damping Material 54" x 40"
DC-100: Damping compound the may applied using a standard masonry trowel.
KP-100: .07" Constrained Layer Damping Material 47" X 32"
KP-200: 0.035" Constrained Layer Damping Material 54" x as specified

The DP-100, DP-200, DP-300, DP-400, KP-100, and KP-200 have an acrylic adhesive laminated to one side.

Technicon can produce many composites which include sound absorbers and sound barriers in conjunction with vibration damping materials to give you a unique and effective composite material solution.

Composites created to order for your specific needs

Technicon industries can create composites from a variety of sound absorptive foams, fibers, and other noise control materials. We also offer a variety of fabric, vinyl, film, and foil facings for functional and aesthetic purposes. We can incorporate sound barriers or vibration damping materials in order to make custom solution to your noise control material needs.
