ENHANCED
GRIDCOOLER®
PRODUCT INFO
For the latest improvement in efficiency, we have
added an enhanced surface to the interior of our tubing. This new design allows us to increase the
heat transfer capability of a
GRIDCOOLER
keel cooler by up to 30%. On larger installations, this increase in efficiency may reduce the number of coolers required for an application. It also allows us to fit keel coolers in
spaces that previously, were too small.
When repowering a vessel, the increase in efficiency give the enhanced
GRIDCOOLER unit the ability to handle a greater
heat-load. In some cases, major modifications to the vessel's piping are unnecessary. Also, if it becomes necessary to modify an older vessel for a new use that requires additional
cooling, (i.e. warmer sea water temperatures, slower hull speeds or adding antifreeze) we may be able to supply your vessel with an enhanced cooler of the same size as your existing
unit.
This new advancement shows our commitment to innovation in a field where we've long been the leader. If you need a solution to a cooling problem, give us a call. We
will gladly work with you to design a keel cooling system to meet your needs.
GRIDCOOLER®
PRODUCT INFO
With the installation of a
GRIDCOOLER keel cooler, operational safety is improved when navigating in
ice or debris laden waters. Also, you will no longer have a loss of power at critical times due to raw water pump failure, or strainers clogged with sandwich wrappers, silt, sand,
sea weed, and other debris. Thousands of GRIDCOOLER units are in
operation with splendid success, proving their seaworthiness and reliability in years of operation by the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army, and a variety of commercial and pleasure
craft. The improved performance and extended engine life saves you the cost of a
GRIDCOOLER keel cooler many times over. The Army's life expectancy for a
GRIDCOOLER keel cooler is 20 years, which is typically longer than the boat using the
GRIDCOOLER unit! The Fernstrum Company is ready work with you at any time to achieve the best
possible design for your exact keel-cooling requirements.
For marine applications requiring unique or custom cooling systems, FERNSTRUM
GRIDCOOLER keel coolers are always a perfect fit. We have design flexibility
unmatched by any other manufacturer. Because approximately 30% of all units we manufacture are custom designs, we can easily tailor a unit to your specific application. This is
possible through our desire to meet your individual needs and our utilization of extensive computer technology throughout the design process.
GRIDCOOLER units can be factory customized in many different ways. If you have a
given area in which to place a cooler, we will work with you to custom design a unit to meet those requirements. We can bend units to conform to your hull's profile, add special
fittings or even stack tubing to fit your application. Such special requests have led to several special series of units.
„ Our L SERIES
support plates are designed to eliminate intermediate support bolt hull penetrations. „ Our E1 SERIES units place the zinc anodes and drain bosses on the end of the keel cooler,
a benefit to high-speed craft and fishermen. „ Our Z SERIES flanges simplify keel cooler installation on double hulled vessels and eliminate hull penetrations. Patent #6,099,373
These examples are only a few of the many
special needs we have met for our customers. If you have a unique marine cooling application, give us a call. We will gladly work with you to design a keel cooling system to meet
your needs.
BOX COOLER PRODUCT INFO
Why Box Coolers? While the keel cooler is widely accepted in
the Americas, The European marine industry prefers the box cooler design. So we set out to design a box cooler that would meet all of the standards we had set for our
GRIDCOOLER keel coolers. After months of research and development, we came up with
a box cooler good enough to bear our name. But why use a box cooler in the states? What's the big advantage over Keel cooling?
The box cooler enhances our
GRIDCOOLER product line by offering better protection against damage from
logs and other heavy debris than a recessed GRIDCOOLER
installation. However, the cost of this added protection is a sea chest inside the hull. At this time, we don't recommend using box
coolers in area with heavy pounding seas.
The WEKA-Boxcooler is unique in that it utilizes
90/10 copper/nickel tubing as our standard for manufacturing. Long
known for its resistance to the sea water environment, copper nickel
provides a long service life while offering anti-fouling
capabilities at the same time. Only the WEKA copper/nickel Boxcooler
offers the WEKA Protector Type S, which protects the cooler from
potential damage from stray electrical currents, and allows the
copper/nickel tubes to maintain their natural anti-fouling
capabilities. There is no need for an ICAF system when using the
WEKA-Fernstrum Boxcooler.
